BOTOX®
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only treatment FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines look better in adults. Botox helps you look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines. Treatment requires minimal downtime. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, with full results in 7-10 days lasting 3-4 months.
Dr. Smith does all the injections in our office. This is very different than many other “medi-spas” where there is no physician present and injections are done by nurses, physician assistants or dentists. We feel that you would want to trust your face to a board-certified plastic surgeon. Botox injections are done with very small 32 gauge needle and rarely cause any bruising. The exact amount and pattern of the injections will be tailored to your needs based on your consultation with Dr. Smith done the same day as you schedule your injection appointment.

Radiesse® Dermal Filler
Radiesse® is an FDA-approved, calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) injectable filler that provides immediate volume and long-term collagen/elastin stimulation to smooth moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is commonly used for the lower face (nasolabial folds, jawline, marionette lines) and to add volume to the back of the hands, with results lasting 12-18+ months.
Dr. Smith does all the injections in our office. This is very different than many other “medi-spas” where there is no physician present and injections are done by nurses, physician assistants or dentists. We feel that you would want to trust your face to a board-certified plastic surgeon. Radiesse is a filler product with a long history of lifting and filling power that is especially needed in patients with deep folds in the nasolabial areas and marionette lines. Injections should be done off all blood thinners but still might cause some bruising. This produce, unlike HA fillers, is not dissolvable with hyaluronidase. The exact amount and pattern of the injections will be tailored to your needs based on your consultation with Dr. Smith done the same day as you schedule your injection appointment.

KYBELLA®
Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is an FDA-approved, non-surgical injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin to reduce moderate-to-severe submental fullness (“double chin”). Treatments involve multiple injections over 2–6 sessions. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and redness.
Although Kybella sounds like a wonder drug to dissolve fat, its use is currently limited by the FDA to injection into the submental fat. Experimental use in other body areas is being done but it is generally too expensive to use in larger body areas where other methods such as suction lipectomy are often used with skin removal as standard of care. Use for fat under the eyes is not recommended. Dr. Smith can determine if the fullness under your chin is indeed amendable to the use of Kybella. Dr. Smith may recommend further tightening of the neck skin, e.g. with Laser Lift or Ultherapy after the fat is dissolved. Consultation with Dr. Smith will allow him to decide whether you are a good candidate for Kybella
Indications for KYBELLA:
- Dissolving fat in submental area – fat in the preplatysmal plane confined to submental area is normally dissolved by injections in 2-3 sessions.
- Treatment of localized fat in other facial areas – Dr. Smith can decide with you during your consultation if you might be a candidate to consider injection in other areas, e.g. along jaw line for limited fat removal.
- Persistent fat in submental area – often even with extreme weight reduction, fat will often persist in the submental area. Fat in this area is often genetic.Kybella allows targeting and permanent removal of this fat without further weight reduction.
Why KYBELLA? When compared to other methods of fat removal.
- Injections alone with destroy fat permanently – unlike other procedures, such a liposuction, this medication destroys the fat cell permanently
- No surgery needed – most patients will not require any surgery for fat removal in submental area once Kybella is used. Any skin tightening, that might be needed after fat is dissolved, can often be done with Laser Lift done later in office
- Accuracy of fat removal – other fat removal methods often leave lumpy areas. This rarely happens with Kybella and any suborn areas can be reinjected as needed.
- Office based nonsurgical procedure – no anesthesia is needed for Kybella injections that are usually done 1 month apart for 2-3 sessions.
What to expect after KYBELLA?
- Swelling and redness around injection region – this is related to chemical action that is dissolving the fat. The body is now removing the dissolving byproducts and this creates inflammation in the form of redness and swelling. Normally this resolves within 10-14 days.
- Minimal discomfort – normally controlled with Tylenol. This improves with ice and head elevation.
- Minimal apparent results after first treatment – often patients are concerned if they don’t see dramatic results after first treatment. Generally marked improvement is noted after the second series of injections. Often, only 50% of the original amount of Kybella is used for a third injection.

Hyaluronidase – Enzyme
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, commonly used in medicine to enhance drug absorption, treat fluid extravasation, and dissolve hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, e.g. Juvederm prodructs. It works by reducing tissue viscosity, making them more permeable. Side effects typically include temporary burning, swelling, and bruising, with rare allergic reactions. This treatment does NOT work on Radiesse®.
